Trash Rules
The Woodland has implemented several initiatives to make our community as Green as possible. Here’s how you can do your part to make our world a cleaner, healthier place.
Glass & plastic bottles, aluminum cans with deposit - A few residents at The Woodland collect glass bottles with deposits. All the funds are donated to Loaves & Fishes Soup Kitchen.
Bottles must be in the original cardboard container (i.e., six packs, boxes, etc).
Containers can be left on the floor in the garage recycling area.
Loose glass bottles with deposits without cardboard containers can be placed in the bin in the garage recycling area, along with plastic bottles and aluminum cans.
Kitchen compost waste
All compost must be placed in a green compostable bag found in the garage recycling area. Baskets to hold bags are available at the Management Office.
Compostable waste: everything food from eggshells, veggie waste, meat and bone scraps, fruit peels, coffee grounds, tea bags, etc.
Food-soiled paper and uncoated paper plates can be included
Small amounts of oils and fats can be included.
Place sealed compost waste bags in the Blue Earth bin in the garage recycling area.
Cardboard – The goal is to keep cardboard out of our dumpsters and out of the landfill.
Any cardboard can be recycled. This includes shipping boxes, cereal boxes, food packaging – anything that is cardboard.
Boxes must be flattened to allow space in the dumpster for everyone to recycle.
Please do NOT put cardboard boxes in the outside dumpsters, or the trash room on your floor.
Recyclables
Acceptable: All recyclables can be deposited in the trash bins on each floor in the Compactor Room.
Newspapers/magazines
Paper (i.e., junk mail, envelopes, office paper, paper bags, etc.)
Glass jars – cleaned out
Plastic Containers #1 - #7
Metal Cans (cleaned out)
Paperboard (i.e., milk cartons)
Unacceptable:
Plastic Bags of any kind
Paper – wax paper, soiled paper, napkins, paper towels, pet food bags, dryer sheets
Soiled aluminum – soiled aluminum foil, soiled tin cans
Styrofoam of any kind
Soiled pizza boxes or any other soiled cardboard
Windowpane glass, plated glass
Regular Trash – Everything else. A trash chute is located in the Compact Room on each floor.
All trash must be in sturdy, closed trash bags. Trash bags must be small enough to fit into the chute. All large bags should be carried outside to the dumpsters in the parking lot.
Kitty litter and broken glass must be placed in the outside dumpster. It explodes when it is compacted and creates a huge mess as well as a safety hazard for our staff. NEVER flush kitty litter down the toilet even “flushable” kitty litter.
Do NOT use our dumpsters for Large Items – furniture, TV’s and other electronics, mattresses, carpeting, etc.
There is a fee for the removal of large items. Request a pickup with the Management Office. They will tell you when and where to put your pick-up items.
Construction Debris – All construction debris must be removed by the contractor and disposed of elsewhere (toilets, bathtubs, carpeting, plaster, metal doors, etc.). Nothing should be placed in the outside dumpsters.
